Huntington Beach Beaches: Costco Working With Local Business in HB

The nationwide Costco Wholesale Stores arrived in Huntington Beach in May 2012 and did some of their shopping locally. The new business, across the street from Old World and next to Bella Terra, contacted Surf City Store on the historic Huntington Beach Pier to come up with 600 golf shirts for the Grand Opening.

"Costco wanted to help stimulate business inside their new hometown and we were delighted to assist them" said Bud Wescott, co-owner of the popular Surf City Store. The shirts had special patches–one on the left chest that featured a surfboard with the store's number (1110), two palm trees and the official company logo; the other patch was for the right shoulder and said, "Huntington Beach #1110, May 2, 2012." Bud, who helped them with the color and shirt selection, said he thought it was neat that such a large chain cared about small businesses in their new town. "They were the nicest people to work with," said the impressed, longtime HB Businessman.
