Dana Point beaches serve a large tourist base and south Orange County audience numbering around 2 million residents who head for the nearest beaches just off the I-5 Freeway or down Crown Valley Parkway. That's the selling point for these coveted sand destinations, several that are also accessed by guests at luxury Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel and other nearby hotels and resorts.

There are 3 beaches in Dana Point -- Salt Creek Beach, Doheny State Beach and Capistrano Beach.

Capistrano Beach in south Dana Point includes wonderful beach activities that provide visitors plenty of relaxation along with some sports such as sand volleyball, basketball and cycling. During the summer months (June-August) a concession stand offers fishing gear, food and beverages, and beach supplies.

Doheny State Beach contains a glorious, one mile sandy coast with tide pools for exploring during low tides. A state-operated campground with 121 developed family campsites and the picnic area provide a safe, comfortable camping experience and the look & feel of a summer camp with the open, 170 picnic tables and 99 barbecue grills.

Salt Creek Beach operated by Orange County Parks at the base of a hill where Ritz-Carlton sits consists of sandy beaches, rock promontories, and sheer cliffs. Those sheer cliffs caught the attention of news cameras one year when a rock climber was stranded on a sheer cliff and a successful rescue occurred. Take caution! The original ravine canyon locally known as Salt Creek, forms the northerly boundary of the beach. Grading and landscaping have been completed in such a manner as to blend with the natural features, leaving the beach and cliff area basically undisturbed. Beach facilities can be reached from Ritz Carlton Dr. off Pacific Coast Highway. A small, offshore reef creates some of the best left swells along the entire shoreline. Swimming, body surfing, sunbathing and tide pool exploration provide fun for everyone.
