Alameda USS Hornet Memorial Day Ceremony

Memorial admission is $25 and free all active duty and retired military personnel  on  Memorial Day! (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Space Force, Coast Guard). for veterans with ID

Memorial Day Commemoration on the USS Hornet is partnership between the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Operation Charlie. The main Commemoration starts at 11 a.m.

  • Featured keynote speaker is Veteran Navy Aviator & CEO of Nations Finest Chris Flaherty
  • Color Guard provided by Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron 10
  • National Anthem  by reigning Miss Teen America Grace Warden
  • Wreath laying from the fantail
  • On the flight deck, the C4 Foundation  “Operation Charlie,” commemorates Charlie “Chuck” Keating IV who was killed in Northern Iraq in 1996.

 

The USS Hornet Museum (Hornet) Memorial Day tribute honoring veterans past and present takes place onboard the ship / museum.  

On Memorial Day, the Hornet opens to the public 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.  A National Historic Landmark, the Hornet is one of the most decorated ships of the U.S. Navy. The Hornet is berthed at

Tours of the ship will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Before and after the ceremony, Hornet visitors are invited to explore the many decks of the ship, from the Captain's Bridge to the immense Engine Room. The carrier's numerous exhibits include 13 Navy and Marine aircraft, ranging from WWII vintage to modern era. The Hornet is also home to the West Coast's largest collection of Apollo Moon Mission artifacts. Families can experience naval history and space exploration firsthand, including the impressive aircraft display, fascinating Apollo Mission exhibit, and an actual flight simulator.
