We love urban tree lots with Oregon and Washington pines, but nothing can replace a fresh-cut California tree that you and your family select in the field and cut it yourself. Yes, it’s work. But it also provides great exercise in beautiful surroundings, and it allows children to see where holiday trees come from. One of the special areas to find the perfect tree is Apple Hill Tree Farms, independently owned and operated farms in Placerville, Camino and Pollock Pines.  The Gold Country region approx. 45 miles northeast of Sacramento gets its name, Apple Hill, for the apple season which launched in September and still continues at some farms selling fresh apple crops, ciders, pies, and even wines that the public is invited to taste, sample and buy.  During the tree season families can often enjoy hot cocoa, tasty treats and bonfires to stay warm during visits. See applehill.com for details.
