Got rodeo? California, the cool place with wineries galore, 1000 miles of beaches and mountain resorts, “got rodeos!”  We “got” so many that cowboys and cowgirls gotta pick and choose their circuits so they don’t overload on rodeo competitions. Among the the top rodeo organizations in the Golden State are the California Cowboys Pro Rodeo Association and Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. There are half a dozen more  with names that include “international”, for instance.  But you’ll find some of these focused on the action in Oklahoma, Texas and the south–not California. California heritage is nothing without the cowboy.  In many small towns throughout the state, the annual rodeo is one of the biggest deals of the year. It is a fundraiser for local clubs and in some cases, the queen of the rodeo is chosen based on which girl raises the most money for special causes. In addition to competitions you often will find a parade or cattle drive to the arena where the rodeo takes place. There’s often a barbecue, a barn dance, Country Western concerts, and even Cowboy Church on Sunday morning of the weekend events.  Here are over 30 rodeos to see in 2013.
