One of California’s special events for the holidays is the Christmas Boat Parade. Held in cities where harbors exist, we’ve found over 20 boat parades in 2014. Most are annual events steeped in tradition and filled with wonderful decorations and surprises each year. While some parades don’t feature cruises, nearly all offer a ring-side seat on shore where you can watch with the rest of the crowd and have an entertaining evening commenting- oohing-and ahhhing. There’s a lot that goes into the decorating boats for the parades — some boats have large monitors that you can see videos on, some feature dancing and singing Santa Claus, and some have live bands performing. The owners of the luxury yachts and pleasure boats really use their imagination to entertain the crowds. If you can make it to a Christmas boat parade, go early so you can find a parking spot and sitting spot.
