Millions of travelers pass by the 101 Santa on Interstate Highway 101 in Oxnard and though some hardly notice this roadside icon, others feel joy in knowing Santa Claus lives and dwells on California’s Central Coast all year long. Santa first greeted travelers along the ‘101’ in 1948 as a rooftop statue built for  a roadside cafe in Carpinteria. When a new landlord decided to dump Santa in 2003 citizens sprang into action to save a piece of history along with all that Santa represents. In addition to Santa’s new location, you can still see Santa Claus Lane (Exit 88) where the jolly, bearded and bespectacled gift-giver once lived. HO HO HO.
