If anyone tells you that you can’t buy love, don’t put too much weight on that advice. Last year (2012) Valentine’s Day sales were up as Americans spent 8.5 percent more on gifts than the previous year. $126.03 was the typical amount spent to celebrate the February 14 holiday associated with love, romance and hearts. According to National Retail Federation, the amount spent was the highest in the survey’s 10-year history, totalling more than $17.5 billion. Here are some of the most popular gifts given last year. Perhaps the list will help you to plan your strategy after you pay off your Christmas bills and head into the tax season.
