The weekend is upon us. It's the weekend AFTER New Year's weekend. It's the low-key, relax-and-have a good time, no stress express. If you're on the coast, the waves are huge and dangerous. If you're on the ski slopes, the snow is often manmade these days to keep that pleasant, powdery look & feel. You can go looking for whales and sometimes not see them along the California coast. But that's not the case as we exit 2011 and head into what's already promising to be a fantastic whale watching season. Reports of whale sightings this week are coming in from San Diego, Dana Point, Redondo Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes and Los Angeles bay where Cabrillo Marine Aquarium staff takes special interest in whale migrations.

Whale Watching in Newport Beach
Whale watching cruises were back on schedule this week after expectations of rain diminished during the daylight hours and sunshine, instead, greeted tourists visiting Newport Beach. Two girls amuse themselves with their iphones while waiting for the whale watching cruise to launch from Newport Landing. Daily whale watching and sportfishing cruises depart near the Balboa Pavilion and cost around $25 for the whale watching adventure.
