You’ve heard the saying, “that’s a bunch of bull.” Just a few blocks down the beach from Black Bull Chop House’s (blackbullchophouse.com) mechanical bull, Bodacious, 15 professional bull riders wowed fans who came to Huntington City Beach to watch Bulls on the Beach competition. Rough & tough cowboys hit the sand on Saturday, making their final appearance with a chance to earn extra points and money before the PBR World Championships (pbr.com)  in Las Vegas Oct. 22-26, 2014. There were no California athletes among the bunch–except for retiring bull, Bushwacker. Considered the greatest bull of all, the two time PBR champ who’s bucked approx. 96% of riders, will head back to an Oakdale, Calif. ranch when the season concludes. And if you think that’s a bunch of bull, the 7-year old Bushwacker isn’t necessarily hanging up his horns just yet.

About: Bull riding’s first rule is just to stay alive during a qualifying 8-second ride. Coined, “The most dangerous 8 seconds in sports,” the clock starts when the bull’s shoulder or flank breaks the plane of the gate and stops when the rider’s hand comes out of the rope, the rider touches the ground or the rider’s free arm touches the bull.
