If you tell your friends you are heading to the Avocado Festival this month, they’ll know you’re going to Fallbrook for the annual event on April 19, 2015. However, if you live on the Central Coast you may be referring to the California Avocado Festival in Carpinteria (Oct. 2-4) or the Avocado & Margarita Festival in Morro Bay (Sept. 12). The festivals include avocado foods, vendors, musical entertainment, avocado-themed contests and celebrations of one of California’s many produce claims to fame. 90% of the nation’s avocado crop comes from California with San Diego County (including Fallbrook) claiming title as the Avocado Capital of the U.S., producing 60% of all the avocados grown in California and approx. 50% of all avocados consumed nationally. Fallbrook’s street festival is free, attracting 70,000 people to the little town for the one day event. Holy Guacamole!
