Few cities among 450 or so in California can afford to hire famous bands to perform at their summer concerts offered free to the public.  Those who are featuring original acts include Santa Cruz and Los Angeles, but the trend is booking tribute groups to perform in summer concerts in the park.  Tribute bands in California this summer will perform the songs of Steely Dan, U2, Fleetwood Mac, Kiss, Elvis, Boston, Styx, Rolling Stones, Santana, Journey, The Eagles, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Van Halen, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Diamond, Queen, The Beatles, The Beach Boys and the Doobie Brothers. What’s really amazing is that the crowds go wild when the bands do well at providing the exact sound. Though these copy cat bands may not look like the old-timer originals who are now mostly in their 50s, 60s, 70s or have passed away,  the tribute bands can sound nearly the same as the originals, and for audiences watching, it’s the sound that counts.
