We all like to hear a whopper of a story, but sometimes there’s a grain of truth in even the wildest tale. This is true when it comes to the world’s largest artichoke. As Castroville residents get ready for the annual Artichoke Festival<\/a><\/strong> on May 18-19, 2013<\/strong>, the World’s Largest Artichoke is being polished for tourists to take tons of pictures. It is located in front of The Giant Artichoke cafe where artichokes are served all year long. The annual Artichoke Festival, giant artichoke attraction and restaurant aren’t far from Monterey (15 miles) \u00a0and Santa Cruz (32 miles), so you can easily book hotel rooms in either destination when you visit. Marilyn Monroe got her start at the Castroville festival, similar to Raquel Welch’s early acting stint at the Ramona play<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Hemet.
