When I visited my parents in Santa Maria, I saw posters \u00a0taped in shop windows all around town with pictures of \u00a0“cowgirls” running for the Elks Rodeo queen contest. The winners, it seems, are selected based on community service and votes. \u00a0What? No swimsuit contests? No silly questions about changing the world? No!
