Better yet, ask a lifeguard now that school&#8217;s out! Last year over 11,400 lost children were returned to their parents at U.S. beaches, and that&#8217;s merely a sample of all the kids that got lost and needed help. It&#8217;s time for a reality check before heading to the beach this year. Parents who are paying attention to social networking and texting more than their little ones are placing their trust in lifeguards who were tasked with watching over nearly 300 million people last year. Nationally they made over 4 million preventive actions, close to 60,000 swim rescues, provided medical aid to nearly 300,000 beach-goers, and unfortunately, may have experienced some of the 60 drownings that occurred.<\/p>\n<p>How is 2013 shaping up? \u00a0On Memorial Weekend 2013, \u00a0Marine Safety Division of Huntington City Beach reported \u00a0245 rescues during a 3 day period, \u00a07,715 preventive actions, and \u00a0success in returning 14 &#8220;lost &amp; found&#8221; children to guardians. \u00a0Here are some<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/beaches\/beach-rescue-statistics.html\"> statistics about beach attendance<\/a> in California.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ask a teacher if parents have become too lax about watching their kids.
