Taft became the first sitting US President to visit Long Beach.<\/li>\n<li>1928: Herbert Hoover, an Iowa native, campaigned for president in front of 100,000 people at an Iowa Picnic in Bixby Park.<\/li>\n<li>1942: \u00a0Franklin D. Roosevelt visited Long Beach\u2019s Douglas Aircraft facility to see B-17 Bombers and C-47 Transport planes being built for World War II.<\/li>\n<li>1960:\u00a0John F. Kennedy shook hands with supporters at Long Beach Airport. <\/li>\n<li>1960: Lyndon Johnson received a key to the city from Long Beach Mayor Ed Wade during his vice presidential campaign.<\/li>\n<li>1974: Ailing Richard Nixon was visited by President Gerald Ford at Memorial Medical Center.<\/li>\n<li>1976: Jimmy Carter shook \u00a0hands with supporters at Bixby Park in June of 1976<\/li>\n<li>1983: Ronald Reagan spoke at a Republican candidate fundraiser alongside the Spruce Goose.<\/li>\n<li>1996: Bill Clinton appeared with Mayor Beverly O\u2019Neill.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By C.
