Shown are students of Godbey School of Art (stephaniegodbey.com) with \u00a0painting variations and interpretations of the American flag.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FLAG DESIGN:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There actually have been many American flag variations starting with the first flag\u00a0 resolution in\u00a01777.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0number of flags loosely based on the prescribed design were used in the early years of American independence.<\/li>\n<li>At one time the flag even had 15 stripes, but 2 were removed to the current 13 representing the original colonies.<\/li>\n<li>When a new state is admitted to the U.S., the state&#8217;s star on the American flag\u00a0design becomes official on the first July 4 (Independence Day) following admission of\u00a0that new state.<\/li>\n<li>Our current flag with 50 stars has\u00a0been in existence the longest of any American flag design.<\/li>\n<li>There is no clear evidence as to who should get\u00a0credit for the American flag design.<\/li>\n<li>The exact colors to be used in the flag are prescribed as White, Old Glory Red, and Old Glory Blue.<\/li>\n<li>As of Feb. 2014 our US military and government agencies are required to purchase American flags made in America.<\/li>\n<li>The majority of American flags purchased are\u00a0made in China.<\/li>\n<li>Several reputable flag makers proudly produce\u00a0American flags in the United States, though their prices are\u00a0often\u00a0higher than foreign made flags.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are a number of art festivals and shows held on 4th of July weekend, and some may do a whopping business selling American flag art\u00a0to\u00a0those\u00a0feeling patriotic and proud.
