Interestingly, some of the top tourist destinations in California don&#8217;t\u00a0apply for the award, citing reasons such as it doesn&#8217;t align with their branding efforts.\u00a0For the cities that do apply and win, they can proudly place patriotic signs all over town!\u00a0San Pablo was the only California city to be selected\u00a0in 2014,\u00a0and though it&#8217;s their 2nd time winning, \u00a0the emphasis in this year&#8217;s selection process on healthy lifestyle opportunities for residents was near and dear to the San Pablo&#8217;s heart. The bay area city faces many challenges&#8211;over 50% of the population,\u00a0which is Hispanic,\u00a0are renters, with around 20% living below poverty levels. All-America City Award judges take into consideration a city&#8217;s special challenges, needs, and the ways the leaders have dealt with their circumstances.
