If you’ve never been to a funkfest, it’s a music and dance festival with ample doses\u00a0of street performances and funky fans. From the kids’ zone of funkativity to bands with ‘funk’ in their names, the event that began as a free street festival in Long Beach <\/a>\u00a0now charges $20 to attend. It’s hard to define funk but here’s what one source has to say about it: \u00a0Funk originated in the 1960s when African-American musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of soul music, jazz, and R&B. Funk de-emphasizes melody and harmony and brings a strong rhythmic groove of electric bass and drums to the foreground.
