Founded in 1776 by the Spanish Father\u00a0Junipero Serra as the seventh in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/missions\/directory.html\">chain of 21 missions<\/a>, it operates as a museum for the public to visit, learn about the mission era and participate in fun events throughout the year.
