Attributed with planting nurseries in five states, the\u00a0small, thin man\u00a0who lived from 1774 to 1845 is celebrated on September 26, Johnny Appleseed Day.<\/p>\n<p>In California&#8217;s Gold Country\u00a0a special marketing region in the Sierra foothills comprised of 55 farms under the umbrella of Apple Hill annually celebrates the legend with\u00a0great apples.
