Record-breaking numbers of migrating gray whales are passing by Long Beach right now as the start of the gray whale migration season<\/a> has begun! Also sighted over the past few weeks are orcas, humpbacks, and fin whales as well as dolphins. \u00a0On December 26, 2014 two high-speed catamarans were surrounded by a\u00a0friendly pod of killer whales that spent the whole trip with the boat. \u00a015 gray whales were also spotted. This\u00a0is the fourth year in a row that orcas have visited the Long Beach coast during New\u00a0Year’s week.\u00a0The public can witness these majestic mammals in their natural habitat on 2-2.5 hour daily departures at 12 and 3 pm. 9 am weekend cruises starting January 3, 2015. Aquarium of the Pacific naturalists provide educational commentary on every departure.
