The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/visit\/could-bullet-train-help-californians.html\">controversial, high-speed bullet train<\/a> that is expected\u00a0to travel between Los Angeles and San Francisco in approx. 4 hours, cost $98 billion to complete (with a funding shortfall of $30 billion,) open around 2033 and require millions of dollars in annual subsidies to operate, is still on track and seems to be gaining speed as a ground breaking ceremony was held this week for the project.<\/p>\n<p>Trains are important to Californians. Many of our ancestors arrived\u00a0here\u00a0by train after the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/trains\/california-trains.html\">last spike was driven<\/a> to join the tracks of the Central Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads, completing the First Transcontinental Railroad on May 10, 1869.
