Forget that the place was once called Hangtown for the hanging that took place. You can still <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/california-cities\/placerville.html\">see an effigy strung from the Hangtown Saloon<\/a> where the hanging tree once stood, reminding visitors that justice was meted swiftly and quite publicly.
