And, if you\u00a0have\u00a0ever wondered why Californians act a little crazy on St. Patrick&#8217;s Day\u00a0(March 17)\u00a0the answer lies in the data. According to the U.S. Census Bureau not only does the United States have more citizens of Irish ancestry (33.3 million) than the country of Ireland\u00a0(4.6 million,)\u00a0California has more citizens or Irish descent than\u00a0any state in the nation. Over 2.5 million Californians have reported their Irish roots to the Census Bureau and whole lot more haven&#8217;t. \u00a0Irish California is often overlooked and rarely recognized for its love of Irish lifestyle, food and culture. For example,\u00a0when\u00a0Forbes published, &#8216;Top 10 Irish Cities in America&#8217;, not a single city in California made the list. Yet, California has one of 17 U.S. cities called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/festivals\/dublin-stpatricks-festival-parade.html\">Dublin<\/a>, it&#8217;s\u00a0home to Irish celebrities such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/people\/nadine-coyle.html\">Nadine Coyle<\/a> who lives in Sunset Beach, and the\u00a0state hosts some of the largest Irish celebrations in the nation with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/festivals\/california-stpatricks-day-festivals.html\">a dozen major parades and festivals<\/a>.\u00a0California&#8217;s\u00a0Irish roots stem back several hundred years,\u00a0with the most\u00a0notable event attracting\u00a0large groups of Irish immigrants to the Gold Rush.\u00a0Sam Brannan, the son of Irish immigrants, is believed to be the first person to become a millionaire in the wake of the Gold Rush, owning approx. 20%f the land in San Francisco.
