A\u00a0challenging rescue in West Hollywood near the busy intersection of Santa Monica and N. La Cienega Boulevards\u00a0took place on\u00a0June 3, 2015 when a call came in that a tiny kitten was trapped in a storm pipe near one of the busiest intersections in L.A. A crew of rescue personnel from the City of West Hollywood\u2019s Department of Public Works began a collaborative rescue operation with teams from Los Angeles County Flood Control, the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and Los Angeles County\u2019s Department of Public Works. The rescue team blocked off sections of the intersection, removed storm drain grates and manhole covers, and went underground in search of the meowing kitten. The cat was afraid and wouldn’t budge as they attempted to lure him with a can of food, so they used a\u00a0flexible rod to work the cat into a\u00a0bucket in order to pull him out. The strategy worked, and it was love at first sight for the City of West Hollywood\u2019s Code Compliance Supervisor, Daniel Mick, who helped lead the rescue efforts. After the kitten was given\u00a0a\u00a0clean bill of health, Mick and his family adopted the kitten and named him\u00a0Stormy.
