This weekend one of West Hollywood’s biggest events of the year, LA Pride<\/a>, takes place on June 12-14, 2015. While the festival attracts up to\u00a0half a million people who come to listen to hot bands, see the parade and have fun,\u00a0the event is part of the tapestry that makes West Hollywood unique. LA Pride Festival is a huge success now but when it started back in 1970 it took\u00a0the help of the ACLU and a\u00a0California Superior Court order to remove the $1.5 million bond requirement to host the world’s first Pride Parade. This year’s free\u00a0Purple Party festival kick-off was rebranded\u00a0‘Lavender Menace’ to pay \u00a0homage to 1970s feminists who came together to help fight discrimination and roadblocks to hosting such an event. Lavender Menace is a FREE event for all ages and takes place in West Hollywood Park on Friday, June 12, 5\u00a0p.m.-12\u00a0a.m.<\/p>\n

A recent\u00a0West Hollywood\u00a0city press release,\u00a0“West Hollywood Top 17 List – A Snapshot of Our City,” includes the usual stuff —\u00a0fiscal responsibility, great social services, health, environmental causes, protecting animals and civil justice — among its top assets. And\u00a0it also lists:<\/p>\n
