SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. — This weekend\u00a0Stern Grove Festival opens its 10 week concert series with\u00a0a FREE Doobie Brothers concert on June 14, 2015. Sure, you could pay $57-$266 on June 13 and see the\u00a0classic rock band\u00a0at Ironstone Vineyards\u00a0in Murphys, or wait a day and book it on over to San Francisco for the free concert in the park. The annual summer concert series<\/a> in the Grove is part of a wonderful, unique gift given to the city of San Francisco more than 75 years ago by Rosalie Meyer Stern, who purchased Stern Grove in 1931 and gave it to the City of San Francisco in memory of her husband, Sigmund. The wise woman offered it\u00a0to the city with a catch\u2026there would always be \u201ca free lunch\u201d or in this case free concerts and cultural performances. The concert series each year features world class acts absolutely free. Part of the annual festival\u00a0opening day celebration is the Big Picnic\u00a0which isn’t free\u00a0(it’s a\u00a0fundraiser.)
