Two events this weekend celebrate California’s famed Gold Rush. Maybe you’ve never heard of Greenville or Johnsville, California located some 50 miles distance from each other but the two destinations share a rich cultural heritage based on 19th century mining operations.<\/p>\n

GREENVILLE: Gold Digger Days<\/a> July 18-19, 2015 – Gold was discovered on May 23, 1851 by nine miners on the east side of Eureka Peak\u00a0(then known as Gold Mountain.) Today they celebrate the momentous occasion with a parade, festival, car show, chili cookoff and games for kids.<\/p>\n

JOHNSVILLE: Gold Discovery Day<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0July 18, 2015 at Plumas-Eureka State Park. The\u00a01851 discovery of gold on Eureka Peak and the bonanza that followed in Johnsville are celebrated with living history activities such as kids washing laundry on a washboard, and panning for gold.
