Growing up in the Midwest (which is actually\u00a01,000 miles closer to the East Coast than West,) one of our most coveted Christmas getaways was New York. We routinely went through our list, checking off must-see attractions such as The Rink at Rockefeller Center, Broadway shows, Macy’s holiday displays and 5th Avenue strolls. Winter weather is usually\u00a0cold, the streets packed with people, and Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball Drop\u00a0is the ultimate in trying to stay warm with a million strangers, including some pick-pockets! \u00a0But still, it is fun.<\/p>\n
When visitors\u00a0come to\u00a0California from east of the Rockies they don’t necessarily have their minds set on ice skating at\u00a0Union Square or\u00a0looking at Gump’s holiday display in San Francisco. Nor does their checklist include\u00a0watching Linda Ronstadt’s former boyfriend, Jerry Brown, light the Capitol Tree where Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger once held the same honors.\u00a0And seeing the Nutcracker Ballet at Dolby Theater in Hollywood–eh.<\/p>\n
Visitors don’t freely gush over\u00a0Christmas in California but are eager to comment, ” I should have stayed home.
