Founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1971, The Christmas Revels is not an easily definable performing arts entity, but each new company has found its audience and become a tradition in its community, much the same as Yosemite’s Bracebridge Dinner<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Oakland’s California Revels<\/strong> (californiarevels.org) celebrates its 30th holiday production in 2015 with Christmas Revels 30: A Venetian Masque. \u00a0In the early 17th century a Commedia Dell Arte theatrical troupe entertains the citizens of Venice with high and low art that they\u2019ve discovered while traveling around the other great cities of Europe. Travel with them as a chorus of more than 60 people sing, dance, tell stories, laugh, and entertain in this annual presentation at Scottish Rite Theater in Oakland Dec. 11-13 & 18-20, 2015. Tickets are sold on website.<\/p>\n

Santa Barbara Revels<\/strong>\u00a0(santabarbararevels.org) is the newest of ten Revels companies established nation-wide. It presents The Christmas Revels: In Celebration\u00a0of the Winter Solstice \u201cThe Treasures of Spain\u201d, Dec. 19 & 20, 2015 at Lobero Theatre.<\/p>\n
