Few boaters claim to have\u00a0traveled every one of those navigable miles but some spend their lives trying. The Delta&#8217;s charming towns cast a magical spell over visitors who\u00a0take scenic drives along the asphalt sloughs,\u00a0especially this time of year when trees\u00a0spring\u00a0forth with colors ranging from white to yellow, purple, and pink. The California Delta Chambers and Visitor&#8217;s Bureau (californiadelta.org) suggests a scenic drive, Rio Vista-Ryde Loop, that begins on Highway 12 crossing five drawbridges and riding two ferries before coming full circle. For those who can&#8217;t resist, at\u00a0the edge of the San Joaquin\/Sacramento River Delta the Lodi Appellation boasts over 60 wine tasting rooms.
