{"id":21990,"date":"2016-01-26T23:44:10","date_gmt":"2016-01-27T07:44:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/traveltips\/?p=21990"},"modified":"2016-01-26T23:44:10","modified_gmt":"2016-01-27T07:44:10","slug":"snow-goose-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/traveltips\/snow-goose-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Cuckoo for Birds at Snow Goose Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/images\/snog3.jpg\" alt=\"img\" width=\"650\" height=\"339\" \/><\/p>\n<p>CHICO, CALIF. &#8212; It&#8217;s only natural that a city which proudly boasts one of the largest municipal\u00a0parks in the nation (Bidwell Park), would take keen interest in wildlife.\u00a0Some even say that Chico gets a little nuts when it comes to birds.\u00a0At Chico&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/festivals\/chico-snowgoose-festival.html\">Snow Goose Festival<\/a>\u00a0Jan. 27-31, 2016 guided tours include several to the city&#8217;s own\u00a0Bidwell Park, and drive trips to Delevan, Colusa and Sacramento\u00a0National Wildlife Refuges to see snow geese, white-bodied geese with black wing tips visible in flight. Up to several\u00a0hundred thousand of these birds may travel in a flock, creating\u00a0a scene that looks like a blanket of snow. \u00a0They\u00a0do not breed during this time but do so from May to August when they return to places such as Canada and Greenland. Spending 50% of\u00a0the year\u00a0migrating, snow geese travel along the Pacific Flyway, the bird freeway that goes from\u00a0the Bering Strait off the coast of Alaska to Patagonia in South America.
