Of course, Gaslamp hasn&#8217;t always been so tame. Its\u00a0Redlight District developed during the 1880s when\u00a0the city&#8217;s booming prosperity attracted unscrupulous characters, including prostitutes, gamblers, and outlaws such as\u00a0Wyatt Earp, who ran\u00a0three gambling halls. The abandoned area to the south became a redlight district known as the Stingaree, a name derived from the fierce stingray in San Diego Bay.
