Crowds converge on the banks of San Luis Creek near Mission Plaza on Feb. 27 to see\u00a0thousands of brightly-colored\u00a0toy ducks get dumped into\u00a0the water. An exciting race is the\u00a0fundraising effort of Cal Poly&#8217;s Sigma Nu fraternity. They lost a &#8220;brother&#8221; to cancer, and produce the event each year with proceeds benefitting American Cancer\u00a0Society. There are more than a dozen duck derbies in California raising money for special causes. Next week the Woman&#8217;s Club in Dana Point hosts its annual Duck Derby at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/festivals\/dana-point-festival-of-whales.html\">Festival of Whales<\/a>. Other cities with duck derbies include Santa Cruz, Sutter Creek, Lake Gregory, Westport, Fremont,\u00a0Huntington Beach, Redding, South Lake Tahoe, San Clemente and Palmdale.
