Bok Kai Temple,\u00a0the oldest operating Taoist temple in Northern California, was built in 1880 to replace the first temple which burned down in a fire. \u00a0The Chinese population settling in Marysville during the California Gold Rush quickly went about their business building homes, shops, temples to honor their gods, and establishment of parades and festivals\u00a0to celebrate\u00a0traditions from their homeland. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/festivals\/marysville-bok-kai.html\">Bok Kai Parade<\/a> on March 12, 2016\u00a0is said to\u00a0be the oldest continuing parade in California\u00a0since\u00a0the\u00a01850s. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/festivals\/san-francisco-stpatricks-parade.html\">San Francisco&#8217;s St. Patrick&#8217;s Day Parade<\/a>\u00a0(also on March 12) was founded in 1852 and is 165 years old.
