America&#8217;s largest celebration of national heritage is near &amp; dear to the hearts of\u00a0Californians and their\u00a0beloved\u00a0Yosemite National Park Half Dome. Mountain cables are installed\u00a0May 27 through October 11, 2016\u00a0(dates could change) with hopeful \u00a0preseason lottery applicants\u00a0waiting to see if they get a permit to climb &#8220;the rock.&#8221; A law\u00a0in effect since 2010 limits\u00a0the number of <a href=\"http:\/\/seecalifornia.com\/mountains\/half-dome-climb.html\">hikers using the cables<\/a>\u00a0in order to protect wilderness character, natural and cultural resources, reduce crowding, and improve safety. A maximum of 300 hikers are allowed (about 225 day hikers and 75 backpackers) each day on the Half Dome Trail beyond the base of the subdome. It usually takes about\u00a012 hours to complete the climb\u00a0which allows\u00a0hikers to reach the top without tools.
