Native Americans were very familiar with the existence of gold but most found it of little or no use in their daily lives. An influx of rough &amp; ready immigrants from around the globe rushed to California to find gold. Along with the gold-seekers came a host of opportunities for entrepreneurs making their fortunes selling everything from shovels and panning supplies, to beef, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/history\/turkey-dinner-1866.html\">turkeys<\/a>, lumber, clothing and necessities.<\/p>\n<p>California&#8217;s numerous\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/seecalifornia.com\/festivals\/california-gold-rush-festivals.html\">gold rush festivals<\/a>\u00a0celebrate the many places where gold was discovered. Here are a few:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/festivals\/greenville-gold-digger-festival.html\">Greenville Gold Digger Days<\/a> (in photos) features a parade, panning for gold and an entire day of old-fashioned entertainment July 16, 2016.<\/li>\n<li>Plumas Eureka State Park <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/festivals\/johnsville-gold-discovery.html\">Gold Discovery Days<\/a> July 16-17 includes many activities from the gold rush era, including wagon rides through the town of Johnsville and gold panning.<\/li>\n<li>Columbia State Historic Park hosts an old-fashioned Gold Rush Days the 2nd Saturday of the month.
