MacDonald<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/hotels\/historic-hotels.html\">Here are\u00a0a few of my favorites<\/a><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>I&#8217;ve always loved the ambiance of Hotel Del Coronado. And what a past it has.<\/li>\n<li>The Mission Inn in Riverside was a vacation destination for Europeans in the early 20th Century.<\/li>\n<li>La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla has been a favorite Hollywood celebrity hangout going back to the days of Clark Gable.<\/li>\n<li>Historic Murphys Hotel started out as the Sperry and Perry Hotel during the Gold Rush in 1856.<\/li>\n<li>Claremont Resort and Spa in the Berkeley Hills was built on land purchased during Gold Rush Days.<\/li>\n<li>Hotel Whitcomb served as\u00a0San Francisco\u00a0City Hall from 1912-15.<\/li>\n<li>President Ulysses S. Grant\u00a0stayed at\u00a0The Palace Hotel for a week in 1879.<\/li>\n<li>The U.S. Grant Hotel in San Diego was built by the General&#8217;s son, U.S. Grant, Jr.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Golden State has many historic hotels with a fascinating past.
