This year Mardi Gras officially lands on February 28 (always 47 days before Easter Sunday.)<\/p>\n<p>French for &#8220;fat Tuesday,&#8221; Mardi Gras is the\u00a0last day of feasting before Lent\u00a0on\u00a0Ash Wednesday. In New Orleans, a city with a population of less than 500,000, there are more than 100 parades during Mardi Gras, and they&#8217;re generally free.
