Pictured is artwork of Sunset Beach by Bill Anderson, shoppers at the Art Festival, and moms playing in the sand at Sunset Beach. \u00a0The art festival started out 50 years ago with a pancake\u00a0breakfast\u00a0and\u00a0a\u00a0few artists selling their work. The day ended with a dinner and dance for \u00a0locals, according to\u00a0Holly Schlange, President of Las Damas, the volunteer\u00a0organization producing the event. Proceeds went to the purchase of the 12th Street lot where the Fire Station (now the community center) was built. Today the festival attracts thousands of people with proceeds\u00a0benefitting local schools, scholarships, and philanthropies.
