California Native American Day is 4th Friday in September<\/h2>\n

California has the largest native American population in the U.S. with more than 100 recognized tribes — more than any other state in the nation. The 4th Friday in September has been designated as a special day to recognize California’s indigenous people. For years, California tribes celebrated by renewing their ties to the Earth and keeping alive the ways of their ancestors. In 1998 the California Legislature passed Assembly Bill No. 1953\u00a0 establishing the day as an official day of education about the culture, heritage and traditions of the California Indian.<\/p>\n
