James Blake has always been in the smile business. The 54-year-old grew up as a surfer who loved the beach. He still smiles when he grabs his board, climbs into his VW bus and heads for the waves off Surfside and Seal Beach.<\/p>\n

His twin surfing brother, John said his mom was concerned about their future and once told her boys, “to get off the beach and find out about professions.”<\/p>\n

So the high school students decided to volunteer at the Children’s Dental Health Clinic in the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. “We helped seat and comfort patients,” James said. They loved the children and what the dentists did to help the kids at the non-profit, where even former Long Beach Mayor Beverly O’Neill got her smile worked on when she was in school.
