Material Girls are &#8220;Sew Thrilled&#8221; to be sworn in as officers of the club, they pledge on a stack of fabric that they will host at least one block party and remind everybody to bring their UFOs. Sounds crazy? Not if you understand the terminology &#8212; a block is a section of a quilt and UFOs are unfinished objects.<\/p>\n<p>First off, there are men quilters though not very many. Unlike their female counterparts, men typically prefer darker colors and masculine themes. In an art show at a prestigious museum in Los Angeles a male artist-quilter added materials such as concrete to his unique work featuring a James Dean-style cool dude. That&#8217;s crazy, right?<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;average&#8221; serious quilter isn&#8217;t like that. She&#8217;s a woman, age 63, with a college degree and household income around $100K. She owns $13,000 in gear and has a stash of fabrics valued at $6,000 or more.
