The Pattersons&#8217; first public event followed shortly in May 1963\u00a0in Agoura Hills. Who could believe around 8,000 people would show up for something based roughly on English history?<\/p>\n<p>The annual event continues to this day as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/festivals\/irwindale-renaissance-faire.html\"> The Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire<\/a>\u00a0in Irwindale. \u00a0Californians embrace Renaissance-themed fairs and festivals more than anywhere (there are approx. 20-25 held events annually.) Usually billed as family-friendly, they encourage guests to don costumes and role play. Often companies on-site offer costume rentals.
