{"id":25725,"date":"2019-01-26T12:00:55","date_gmt":"2019-01-26T20:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/traveltips\/?p=25725"},"modified":"2019-01-26T12:00:55","modified_gmt":"2019-01-26T20:00:55","slug":"snowpack-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/traveltips\/snowpack-california\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Cheers for Snowpack in California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/images\/cafo.jpg\" alt=\"img\" width=\"650\" height=\"339\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While the fun side of snow is apparent in mountain resorts such as Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Resort, there&#8217;s a &#8220;bigger picture&#8221; issue that makes Californians cheer for the white stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to recent winter storms, the state&#8217;s snowpack is expected to be\u00a0at or above historical averages for this time of year, and will be confirmed when California Department of Water Resources conducts the season&#8217;s second snow survey at Phillips Station on January 31st. On average, the snowpack supplies about 30% of California&#8217;s water needs, melting in the spring and early summer to meet the state\u2019s water demand in the summer and fall.<\/p>\n<p>The state&#8217;s major reservoirs are showing promise in 2019:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>San Luis Reservoir, the largest off-stream reservoir in the United States where water is stored for the State Water Project and Central Valley Project (CVP,) is at 83% of capacity and 109% of average.<\/li>\n<li>Several CVP reservoirs serving the San Joaquin Valley are near or above 100% of their averages for this time of year.<\/li>\n<li>Castaic Lake is 94% of average.<\/li>\n<li>Shasta Lake, the CVP&#8217;s largest reservoir, is at 62% of capacity and 94% of average.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Fun stuff at Tahoe Donner Ski Resort<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>February 16-23, 2019 is\u00a0Winter Superstars Week.
