Each year they also turn City Hall green with ceremonies taking place this year on March 16 and 17 at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n Other noteworthy events<\/a> take place in San Diego, which includes a huge street party in Gaslamp called shamRock<\/a>. It features blocks of bands on multiple stages, DJs, costumes, dancing, drinking and all sorts of merriment. It’s an adults only event, but for families and kids the better choice is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival<\/a> in Balboa Park.<\/p>\n While parties, festivals and parades abound, give yourself extra time when planning to hit the town. If you see an Irish restaurant or bar and there’s not a line out the door — something’s wrong!<\/p>\n Also beware of drinking and driving. St. Patrick’s Day is one of the deadliest days of the year for drunk-driving fatalities, according to statistics from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration.
