When Kenn Kimberling (pictured) of\u00a0<em>Kenn and the Kimberland Traveling Forge<\/em> caught the eye of SeeCalifornia contributer Chris MacDonald in Sunset Beach, the writer said he came to a screeching halt.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While traveling down South Pacific Avenue&#8211;I couldn&#8217;t believe my eyes. There was a blacksmith with his 19th Century Traveling Forge in front of a house. He was attracting a crowd. Bicyclists stopped in awe; walkers came over to ask questions; everyone going by had big smiles on their faces. It was something out of the Old West movies that you don&#8217;t see unless you visit Knott&#8217;s Berry Farm.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/people\/kenn-kimberling.html\">Read about MacDonald&#8217;s unique encounter with a California blacksmith<\/a> at a sandy beach.<\/p>\n<h2>California Blacksmith Shops<\/h2>\n<p>When Mexico was under Spanish rule, iron was manufactured in Spain and sent to Mexico where it was worked into tools and implements for California and the rest of New Spain.\u00a0Tools were shipped to California for use in the Missions and Presidios.
