{"id":26261,"date":"2019-09-19T10:50:25","date_gmt":"2019-09-19T17:50:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/traveltips\/?p=26261"},"modified":"2019-09-19T20:46:22","modified_gmt":"2019-09-20T03:46:22","slug":"yosemite-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/traveltips\/yosemite-book\/","title":{"rendered":"Yosemite &#8211; You are always on my mind!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/images\/yobook.jpg\" alt=\"img\" width=\"650\" height=\"339\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When author and historian Craig MacDonald wrote\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/authors\/leroy-radanovich.html\">his latest book review<\/a>, &#8220;Images of America: YOSEMITE VALLEY&#8221; by Leroy Radanovich, Arcadia Publishing, my mind raced through so many memories of Yosemite.<\/p>\n<p>As I read and posted this review, my eyes crossed paths with the mention of Ahwahnee Hotel, known as The Majestic Yosemite Hotel for several years during a trademark dispute which was settled in July 2019 when icons in the Valley got their well-known names back.<\/p>\n<p>One section of the Yosemite Valley book captures the awesomeness of the world famous Ahwahnee Hotel, built to be fireproof with a steel frame, slate roof &amp; concrete resembling wood. The wonderful place is also known for its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/christmas\/yosemite-bracebridge-dinner.html\">Bracebridge Dinner &amp; Pageant<\/a>, during the Christmas holiday season.<\/p>\n<p>Another memory that came to me was National Park Service raising admission fees into the park. During <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/parks\/national-parks-free-days.html\">National Park Service fee-free days<\/a> such as National Public Lands Day on Sept.28, 2019, you can get into this park and other national parks free.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the basic charges of admission into Yosemite National Park as of this posting:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Non-commercial car, pickup truck, RV, or van with 15 or fewer passenger seats \u00a0$35\u00a0valid for seven days.<\/li>\n<li>Motorcycle $30 \u00a0valid for seven days. Cost is per motorcycle (not per person).<\/li>\n<li>Foot, bicycle, horse, or non-commercial bus or van with more than 15 passenger seats \u00a0$20 valid for seven days. People 15 years and younger are free. Cost is per person.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I also remembered &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/parks\/yosemite-review.html\">Falling for Yosemite<\/a>&#8221; fall season story SeeCalifornia.com published by author Barbara Steinberg, which describes how to get to Yosemite, accommodations, dining and activities such as hiking, tours, and seeing fall foliage.<\/p>\n<p>Yosemite Valley is truly a magical &#8212; says Craig MacDonald in his book review:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you like Yosemite, you&#8217;ll love the old photos in this book.
