Watching them recently, you&#8217;d notice that people are particularly fond of piers and frequent them as part of an exercise regimen&#8211;maybe a little bit more now that millions of residents are off work and their schools are closed.<\/p>\n<p>The trouble for concerned officials is that people visiting piers aren&#8217;t maintaining a 6-foot distance from one another. According to the City of Huntington Beach, Huntington Beach Pier and recreational amenities are closed to support social distancing after &#8220;many in the community expressed concerns about the crowd of visitors who spent time in Huntington Beach without practicing safe social distancing behavior.&#8221; The City closed the Pier beginning March 24, 2020 until further notice.<\/p>\n<p>Other pier closures:<\/p>\n<p>Balboa Pier (Newport Beach) March 25<\/p>\n<p>Newport Pier March 25<\/p>\n<p>Pismo Beach Pier March 25 until further notice<\/p>\n<p>Santa Monica Pier March 16 closed indefinitely<\/p>\n<p>San Clemente Pier March 25 until further notice<\/p>\n<p>Not Closed &#8211; Santa Cruz Wharf: According to the City, while most businesses on the Santa Cruz Wharf are currently closed, the Wharf itself will operate a reduced public access schedule through April 10, 2020, for walking, jogging, and other activities that comply with County Social Distancing Requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Other California Piers<\/p>\n<p>Ocean Beach Pier San Diego<\/p>\n<p>Oceanside Pier<\/p>\n<p>Stearns Wharf Santa Barbara<\/p>\n<p>Ventura Pier<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While California beaches are to remain open amidst a government issuance of massive closures, it seems that activity on iconic piers situated on those beaches has caught the attention of officials who have decided to shut them down.
